Marbled White & Knapweed Framed Original

A pencil and watercolour original of Marbled White Butterflies with notes. Framed in a refurbished gilded oval frame, with glass. Small hole for hanging on the back. Dimensions 22.5cm x 17cm.

The Marbled White butterfly is a favourite of mine, and I'm really lucky to see so many of them where I live. Flying in July it can be found mainly in central and southern England in the longer swards of unimproved grasslands. Larger colonies favour wild flower-rich chalk or limestone downland, and have a penchant for purple-flowering wild flowers such as knapweeds, Red Clover, Wild Majoram and Field Scabious. Red Fescue is the caterpillar food plant.
